The Powell Family

“After staying here for so long, it really does feel like our home away from home.“
“On Friday, December 1st, 2023, after a week of high fevers, sickness, and negative virus tests earlier that week, our daughter, Jasmine who was 6 years old, was admitted to the hospital with low oxygen levels as well as various other concerning stats. Bloodwork showed that she was very sick with a bacterial infection in her blood. She needed oxygen, blood transfusions, and platelets.
Jasmine and Lynn were transferred by Medivac from their local hospital to the children’s hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At the children’s hospital, Jasmine was diagnosed with leukemia which had caused her to get so sick from the bacterial infection.
On Monday, December 4th, 2024 she had a procedure to find out what type of leukemia to determine the treatment plan. Jasmine’s official diagnosis is B-cell ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). She received a port, and started chemotherapy treatment in the next few days. She is expected to be in the hospital for several days for the initial treatment session.
Our first experience with RMHC-SK gave our family members a place to stay while she was initially admitted. Living and staying at RMHC-SK and RMHC-MB during all her treatments made life so much easier. I greatly appreciate the Home for Dinner program, and all the other supportive programs, activities, and facilities. After staying there for so long, it really does feel like our home away from home.”
