The McIntyre Family

“This little warrior has been poked more than 3,500 times, has had over 38 general anesthetic (surgeries), numerous tests, scans, and ultrasounds, with no real “official” diagnosis.“
“Braxton (aka our little superhero/mighty mouse) from Battleford, SK has been strong and determined since the day he entered the world. He and his twin sister were born prematurely at 29 weeks in July 2018. He weighed one pound at the time, but this was only the start of the barriers he had to overcome. Numerous blood transfusions, medication infusions (IVIG and Iron), and infections. Braxton has a form of “bone marrow failure”, some stomach/digestion issues as well as neutropenia, which means he has few neutrophils – a type of white blood cell, causing him to get sick very easily.
The now six-year-old little superhero has had many hospital stays over the years, with some stays as long as 272 days at a time. In total, his family has stayed 721 nights between Saskatoon, Calgary, and Toronto’s Ronald McDonald House.

Even though his medical journey is far from over we always try to remain positive and live life to the fullest. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to take things for granted. Most of us complain about something simply because we don’t stop to look at all the things we are actually blessed with. If there is anything we have learned in life it would be that nothing in life is guaranteed, and though it may seem unfair, all you can do is live each day to the fullest and never take anything for granted, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
The RMH has truly been our home away from home. We have many fond memories from the house, holidays, Christmas, birthday parties, and so many milestones from each one of our children. Some of the families we have met along the way have become like family to us and we have stayed very close too. We have seen both triumph and heartbreak. And all the staff and volunteers, you truly make this house so special. Your love and caring nature make the hardest days a little easier. There is always someone there to greet you with a hug, and not one person goes unnoticed.
So instead of complaining about things you don’t have, try to cherish everything that life has given you. And, whenever you need a reminder that life is a blessing, just look at our little Superhero/Mighty Mouse !! I promise Braxton’s infectious personality is bound to get you back on the right track!”
