The Mahoney Family

“Despite not knowing a single person who volunteered so much of their time to make us feel welcomed, it almost felt like we were staying over at a friend’s house.“
“In the fall of 2024 my wife, two sons, and I spent 25 nights at the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon. Despite not knowing a single person who volunteered so much of their time to make us feel welcomed, it almost felt like we were staying over at a friend’s house. There was always someone to ask us how we were doing or wish me a good day as I left early in the morning.
Our daughter was born about two months early due to pregnancy complications and had to spend 28 nights in the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital NICU. We live over three hours away from the JPCH and it would have been a huge financial burden to try and stay in a hotel for that long, and the RMH made it possible to stay there for the entire time.
At the same time, this was all going on I was attending my final level of trade school in the city. If the house was unavailable I would have had to quit school so I could take care of our two sons. They spent lots of time with their grandparents too but we were able to live together as a family for a large portion of the time because of RMH.
There are so many positive things to say about the RMH, like the Home for Dinner program that provides free hot suppers three days a week so you can eat together as a family even if you are too busy to cook, the free bagged lunches that parents can take on their visits to the hospital, the many volunteers that come to entertain the kids (thank you balloon man!) and all of the behind the scenes staff that clean the rooms, do facility maintenance and keep the coffee on. We will be forever grateful to the Ronald McDonald House and all of the people that make it possible”.
