As a member of the RMHC-SK Volunteer Team, you play a significant role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for our families. Under the direction of the Director of House Operations, you are responsible for the ongoing care and health of our indoor plants. Living plants are part of a healthy, vibrant home and help create a warm and comfortable environment for the families we support. Responsibilities
- The Care and maintenance of all the living plants at Ronald McDonald House Charities – SK.
- Commit to a regular weekly schedule and communicate availability changes to the Volunteer Coordinator
- Water, fertilize, prune and re-pot all plants as necessary
- Ensure all plants are in appropriate spaces for their optimal health
- Make suggestions for new and replacement plants
- Refresh and arrange the kitchen table bouquets
- Adhere to all RMHC-SK Procedures, Protocols and Policies
Necessary Skills
- The willingness to get your hands dirty!
- Physically capable – this work requires light lifting and re-potting of plants
- A friendly and enthusiastic demeanor, as you act as an ambassador of Ronald McDonald House in the community.
Training and Support
- General orientation and training will be provided
- Role specific training will be provided
- Continuing training and support will be offered to all volunteers.
Time Commitment:
- 1 shift per week for a commitment of 8 months to a year
- Approximately 2-3 hours
Parking:
We recognize that parking is a challenge in our community. We would recommend, if possible, that you walk, bike, bus, or get dropped off. If you must drive, we request the following:
- For visits to the House 2 hours or less, please park on University Drive west of Clarence Ave.
For visits two hours or longer, park in the ONE volunteer parking space in the lot (if open). Alternatively, you can park in a family parking space in the lot if there is one available. If you are parking in the lot, you MUST register with the front desk to ensure we are able to contact you while on your volunteer shift in case of needing to move your vehicle for emergency. Unregistered vehicles may be towed.
